Our own Ben Sclater gained his first men’s Devon Cap after a hiatus of 20 years taking him from Juniors straight into the over 35 side. His debut was an assured one winning both his matches on the 18th backed up by a gutsy performance from his partner Simon Waddington (Westward Hoo).

The Devon Mid side boasted 5 Warreners in the Scratch match; Captain Colin Papworth, Tim Aggett (Mr 60),  Alan McGinn and nature lover Barrie Keith. Strong performances by all assured a narrow victory over Cornwall and Somerset in the annual 3 way 3 day fixture by a half point 24-23.5 (7 points from Warren players!) With Chris McGill being a talismanic figure for the Men’s Devon side and Barrie, Tim and Colin all being regulars in the all-conquering Senior side it is testament to the Warren’s testing layout and fabulous greens that its home players are such a mainstay of the County Sides at all levels.

Hopefully next will be the resurrection of a strong junior scene at the club.

Meanwhile on our home course new boy Damon Robbins and stalwart Paul Fryatt took top spot in the Harmsworth Cup with a scintillating 61 in very windy conditions! Well played guys!
